About

McClintock Ink was created to publish the works of AJP McClintock. Of course, ‘Ink’ is a play on ‘inc.’ Ink was the medium for all formal letters and books before the arrival of emails and ebooks. It used to be purchased in bottles, spilt into inkwells, and across blotting paper. Those of us who are older than forty will remember siphoning the liquid into our fountain pens and staining our thumb along with our fingers. Indelible inks were to be avoided, as it took hard scrubbing to remove the stains, and you were hardly going to look the part at a function if you had blue fingers. Thus, the logo. It is an image of the inkwell belonging to AJP McClintock’s grandmother, given to her in 1907.  An extravagant gift for the time, especially as there was no significant reason for it.

AJP McClintock

Alasdair (AJP) was born in England in 1949, raised in Ireland, and will pass on in Australia. He successfully married and has a clatter of kids, who now look at something in his home and ask, “Can I have that when you die?”

The grandchildren are even more candid.

He has to write under his initials ‘AJP’ because his son, Alasdair Jnr, has already purloined the name.

He has given up dedicating his books to anyone, as those he approached were appalled at the suggestion.

Like the picture drawn by a three-year-old that is given to you (“That’s very good darling, but what is it?”), all his work is dedicated to his soul mate, who will remain so forever, and knows who she is.
